MEET DONALD
New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
I am a proud Newberry Panther and a graduate of Newberry High School, Class of 2001, having also attended Oak View. In 2018, my wife, Yatoyia Long, and I moved back to Newberry to start our family in Newberry.
I am the owner of All Smiles Auto Detail, a mobile detailing business that serves residents throughout the city. Providing great customer service has always been a priority for me, and my business allows me to connect with the community daily. Beyond my work, I am also a member of 100 Black Men of Greater Gainesville, where I mentor and support young people, helping to guide the next generation. where our motto is " They are what they See"
I never planned on getting involved in public office until I experienced firsthand the challenges residents face with city processes. When I applied for a permit to build a fence and shed, the zoning department never followed up for approval. This led me to appear before the Planning & Zoning Board and the City Commission to get it resolved. After going through that process, I was asked if I would be interested in joining the board. Seeing an opportunity to help others navigate similar challenges, I accepted and became a member in 2021.
Serving as Co-Chair of the Planning & Zoning/Historic District Board over the past three years has given me valuable insight into the complexities of city planning. I’ve learned that not all issues have simple solutions, but with the right information, transparency, and a commitment to fairness, we can make decisions that benefit our entire community. My focus has been on balancing growth with preserving the quality of life for residents, ensuring that new developments and businesses enhance rather than disrupt our city.
I want to help shape a future where people don’t feel the need to leave Newberry for opportunities and where our children can see a future for themselves right here at home. My goal is to build a strong, thriving community that works for everyone!!
